May 11, 2013 Patti J. Flanagan was born November 21, 1953, and passed away from this life on May 3, 2013 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 59. She was a long time resident of Tulsa before moving to Tempe, Arizona in 2009. Patti was born in Tulsa, OK to Joe Armon Plemons and Patrice Beverly Paul. Patti graduated from Bixby High School in 1971. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from Oral Roberts University. After graduation she became a third grade teacher with Bixby Public Schools. She continued her education at the University of Oklahoma earning her Masters Degree in Social Work. Upon graduation she worked as a therapist at Parkside Psychiatric Hospital in Tulsa, OK for four years. Once again, deciding to further her education she attended Arizona State University earning a Ph.D. in Social Work. After writing and defending her dissertation she took a teaching position at the University of Oklahoma where she was an Assistant Professor. She retired in 2002. Upon retirement from the University of Oklahoma she moved to San Luis Potosi, Mexico. She became interested in San Luis Potosi while serving on the board of directors for Tulsa Global Alliance. While teaching at OU she was also a member of Leadership Oklahoma (Class XII) and had very fond memories of her classmates and the difference they each made contributing to making Oklahoma a better place. Patti had many passions. She often gave her time and resources to many causes in quiet acts of kindness. She enjoyed mentoring young women. She is loved, respected, and remembered by many whose lives she touched. She prided herself on being an excellent mother, mentor to many, and friend to all. She had a servant's heart. She endowed the Michal P. Flanagan Scholarship at the University of Oklahoma in the memory of her late husband. This annual scholarship provides tuition and books and is only eligible to single mothers. Patti was a constant reader and considered herself a lifelong learner. She loved collecting art, decorating her home, traveling, scuba diving, and was a loving owner of many lucky animals. She was always willing to give a hand to those in need. She would literally give you the shirt off her back if you needed one. She was unassuming, unpretentious, non judgemental, open minded, fearless, and had a very strong faith with her Lord and Savior. She is predeceased by her husband, Michael P. Flanagan and her father, Joe Armon Plemons. She is survived by her devoted son, Tom Flanagan of Chandler, AZ and her mother, Patrice Beverly Paul, of Tulsa, OK. She is also survived by three siblings; Jerome Paul (Deborah) of Tulsa, OK, Rebecca Magee (Clifford) of Tulsa, OK, and Jeana Hopper (Dan)
of Colorado Springs, CO. Patti also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many close friends.
